Margo V. Izzo, Project Manager, Special Education and Transition Services, Ohio State University:
Welcome to FAME. We developed a web-based product to assist faculty and administrators to deliver a quality education to students with disabilities. Research indicates that students with disabilities are entering our campuses with increasing greater percentages.
We have designed the five FAME modules around five key topics that faculty and administrators have identified. Rights and Responsibilities is a module that outlines the role that faculty play in supporting students with disabilities in the classroom. Universal Design for Learning presents strategies that faculty can implement in their classroom to meet a more diverse student population. Web Accessibility and Assistive Technology focuses on how to make our web sites accessible so that students who use assistive technology can access the content on our web site. College Writing focuses on how to use written expression to help students understand their college content. Climate Assessment is a module that discusses the process of assessing the climate of a college campus, a department, and/or a particular classroom.
A lot of thanks needs to go to the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Postsecondary Education Programs, for having the insight to fund quality products for faculty and administrators who are serving students with disabilities. I’d also like to thank our national partners and faculty and administrators across this country, who have worked diligently to bring you the best possible product to assist you to bringing a quality education to students with disabilities.
