West Chester University Police Department in 2007 took steps to expand its efforts to be proactive and secured funding for a police canine. Sgt. Matthew Paris and canine Piper were trained in Narcotics detection and tracking. They successfully completed training and were certified by North American Police Work Dog Association. Sgt. Paris was issued a marked West Chester University Police vehicle to respond to calls for assistance. Sgt. Paris and Piper are registered with Chester County Police Radio and are available for call outs 24/7. The nature of these requests for assistance require immediate and quick response of the K-9 team for the best possible results.
