WCU Mounted Police Bike Patrol
West Chester University was
the first law enforcement agency in the Commonwealth of
Pennsylvania to use mountain bikes for patrol purposes. This
team of officers hit the streets of the campus in 1991. The Bike
Patrol Team operates twenty-four hours a day from April 1 until
October 31. Team members patrol the 400 acre campus on Trek mountain bikes. Bike officers have the same patrol
responsibilities as those patrolling in vehicles. Additionally, bike
officers participate in Community Policing programs.
The West Chester
University Mountain Bike Team travels to other Universities and
Municipal Police departments to assist them in starting their
own bicycle teams. The team also maintains a campus bicycle
registration program.
