All dance minor students must complete the following requirements, in order to receive documentation on their transcript.
1. Course Requirements: 21 credits of course study in the dance area. The dance minor core courses include DAN 344 - History of Dance, and your choice of 2 of the following 3: DAN 441- Dance Composition, DAN 442 -Musical Theatre Dance & Choreography, and DAN 315 - Dance Pedagogy. Dance minors must pass 8 credits of technique in either Level 2 or Level 3 of modern, ballet, jazz or tap.
2. Performance Area: Dance minors must register for participation credit in two concerts during their time at WCU. This participation can be as a dancer, choreographer, UDC officer, adminsitrative support, technical support, or faculty assistant. Credit for this can be obtained though DAN 446.
3. Extra Curricular Assignments: Some of these assignments will be part of course requirements.
- Teaching Assistant -to a dance faculty member in a Level I course. Or -
- Choreographic Assistant – to a dance faculty member for a specific choreographic project either on or off campus. Assignment for this will be part of the requirement for DAN 441 or DAN 442
- Recorded Portfolio - a record of all material covered in each dance course taken by the students. This portfolio will be presented to the dance coordinator during the semester that the students do their teaching assistantship.
