WHAT IS UT?
University Theatre is one of the producing organizations of the Department of Theatre & Dance. A proud SSI organization, this student organization is annually one of the most active on campus. Each year, we produce at least four theatre performances, with one being a musical. We also produce an evening of Student Written One Acts that are completely student written, directed, designed and performed. We also provide technical assistance to the fall and spring University Dance Company concerts.
In addition to our work with productions, we participate in the Homecoming Parade, winning the competition for the past five years! We pride ourselves on providing community service and outreach. Our biggest service event is our annual AIDS Benefit. This evening features performances and a silent auction with all of the proceeds being donated to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Over the past eight years, we have raised over $23,000 for this cause. Another large outreach program is our annual High School Theatre Festival. For the past 26 years, UT has brought in area high schools to perform one act plays, participate in workshops, and experience a day in the life at a college theatre program.
We have many other activities that we host annually. Some of these include our Welcome Back Picnic, Movie Nights, Open Mic Nights, 24 Hour Theatre Project, Hayride, Pumpkin Carving, Career Nights, and many more.
- UT has elections for student officers once a year in the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and Historian and Parliamentarian.
The 2008-2009 Officers are:
President: Andrew Lowy
Vice President: Marion Foy
Secretary: Jessica Suda
Treasurer: Andy Truscott
Historian: Shannon Powlick
Parliamentarian: Peter Collier
