Curriculum Vitae
Kristen Albert has extensive experience in Music
Education. An educator in the Pennsylvania public schools for seventeen
years, Dr. Albert has teaching experience in all levels of classroom,
vocal and instrumental music, both elementary and secondary. Her
specialties include middle school classroom and vocal and instrumental
music, with emphasis on Kodaly Methodology, Effective Teaching
and Classroom Management. She holds certificates in Kodaly Level
I and II from West Chester University.
An active performer and teacher of French horn, Dr.
Albert is a member of the Lancaster Brass Quintet, established
in 1982, and was a member of the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra (1982-1999).
She is principal horn in Allegro: The Chamber Orchestra of Lancaster,
and plays Eb Tenor horn with the Lancaster Brass Band. She continues
to be a freelance performer and a private French horn instructor.
Dr. Albert is the founder of the Childrens
Choir of Lancaster and the Artistic Director of the Kennett Symphony Children's Chorus. Both of these prestigious ensembles incorporate teaching of music
literacy through the use of Kodaly methodology and movement activities and have been invited to perform for the Pennsylvania Music
Educators Association. Dr. Albert keeps an active schedule as guest
conductor for elementary and middle level choral festivals.
Dr. Albert has presented papers at PMEA and MENC
on the local and regional levels, at the Technological Directions
in Music Learning conference as part of the Institute for Music
Research, for the College Music Society, and the 21st Century Technology
in Education Conference at Penn State University. She has been
published in the ISME journal, Music Education International on
the integration of technology to enhance music learning. She serves
as secondary classroom/vocal music specialist in the Department
of Music Education in the School of Music.
In addition to her professional activities as an
educator and a performer, Dr. Albert is a member and Higher Ed advisor to the Board of Directors of the Organization
of American Kodaly Educators, the American Choral Directors
Association, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. She serves as
faculty advisor to the West Chester Chapter of Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educator's
Association (PMEA) and Sigma Alpha Iota, a women's national music
fraternity.
