Curriculum Vitae
Frank Kaderabek served as principal trumpet with the Philadelphia Orchestra from 1975 until his retirement in 1995. His previous appointments included Principal Trumpet of the Dallas Symphony, Assistant Principal Trumpet of the Chicago Symphony, and Principal Trumpet of the Detroit Symphony.
Born in Chicago, he studied with Edward Maszcek and Chicago Symphony Principal Trumpet, Adolph Herseth, at Chicago Musical College. At West Point he played solo cornet in the band, studying also in New York with Harry Glantz and Nathan Prager.
In addition to his solo performances with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Mr. Kaderabek has appeared as soloist with the Detroit Symphony, the Grant Partk Symphony in Chicago, the Chicago Chamber Orchestra, and at the Bach Festival in Cranbrook. In 1982 he was the first American ever invited to judge at the International Trumpet Competition in Czechoslovakia, returning again in 1987 and 1992. While in Prague in 1992, he recorded his first solo CD, An American Trumpet in Prague, on the VARS label. The 1991 annual New York Brass Conference honored Mr. Kaderabek for his contribution to performance and teaching.
Mr. Frank Kaderabek was one of four internationally acclaimed trumpeters awarded the International Trumpet Guild’s Award of Merit in June 2004.
He speaks fluent Czech, collects rare books about World War I and lives on a farm in Berks County,Pennsylvania.
