The West Chester University Annual Piano competition, now in its 24th year, strives to provide students ages 9-18 with performing opportunities, and raise the standard of excellence of young pianists. This is a national competition with no geographic restrictions.
There will be two rounds of auditions. The first round will be by submission of DVD/VHS, CD or tape recording of one of the two chosen competition pieces, sent with the application, and postmarked by Friday, February 17, 2012. The recording does not have to be professional, but we encourage a sound/video quality as high as possible, so the screening jury can make an accurate decision. The second round of auditions to be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012 will be a live performance of the recorded piece and the second chosen piece, listed on the Application Form.
A Recital and Awards Presentation will be on Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 3:00 p.m., in the Gates Family Recital Hall, and will include performances by the first, second, and third place winners in each age group, and must be attended by any chosen Honorable Mention winners. Absences in either category will result in cancellation of the award. The first place winner in the oldest age group will be granted a Dean's Scholarship for study in the West Chester University School of Music, and will be offered a full tuition scholarship to study with world-renowned pianist Dr. Anthony diBonaventura at the Brandywine Piano Institute, July 10-20, held at West Chester University's School of Music.
Jacobs Music Company will invite all place winners to play in Philadelphia in their Steinway Salon on a date to be announced. Jacobs Music is a proud supporter of West Chester University's All-Steinway School of Music, and in recognition of their close relationship with the University and their ongoing commitment to arts, music and culture, they are pleased to extend this invitation. This Winners Recital will offer all place winners the opportunity to perform on a Steinway Grand in the intimate Center City Jacobs Steinway Salon. Jacobs Music will provide a post-recital congratulations reception for performers and their guests.
