Guizhou University Joint Summer Music School Program
A three-week joint program by the School of Visual and Performing
Arts, West Chester University (WCU) and the College of Arts, Guizhou
University (GU) is to be held in Guiyang, Guizhou, China, June
10 through June 25, 2006.
Five music professors from WCU: Ovidiu Marinescu, Sylvia Ahramjian,
Carl Cranmer, Randall Scarlata, In Young Lee will each present
a series of master classes, in keayboard, string and vocal, to
selected students from WCU and selected students at GU.
The music summer school will also organize several recitals there
and visit various cultural and historical sites including the Miao
minorities villages. Students can also take optional lessons on
Chinese music instruments from the GU music faculty.
Cost is still being negotiated with GU. But
we anticipate that GU will cover all the cost, including room,
board and sightseeing, that will incur in Guizhou. Students are
expected to pay their airfair, which is approximately $1050 (international)
+ $300 (inside China). A pending grant proposal may help cover
part of the students' cost, which will be made known by the end
of February.
