Director of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs
Jodi joined the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs in July of 2012. She comes to us from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, CA, where she was the Coordinator for Community Service at Join Us Making Progress, the hub for public service and volunteerism on campus. The program included a Bonner AmeriCorps program, and consisted of both co-curricular service-learning and academic service-learning. During a period of her previous position she co-chaired the Leadership and Social Justice Conference at UC Berkeley. Prior to moving to California she finished a Master of Arts in Education with a focus on Student Affairs in Higher Education at the University of Connecticut. Before graduate school, Jodi worked in the non-profit sector for Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life. Jodi hales from Northern New Jersey and is passionate about helping students become lifelong active citizens.
Service-Learning Faculty Associate
Sara is an Associate Professor in the Department of Early and Middle Grades Education and the Linguistics Program. She is serving as the Faculty Associate for 2013-2014. She teaches education and linguistics courses and supervises student teachers in grades K-8. She has integrated a service-learning component into ENG/LAN 382 Teaching English Language Learners PK-12 in the form of tutoring in area schools and agencies to benefit the at-risk population of non-native English speakers. She served as Coordinator of Field Experiences in her department for three years (2007-2008 to 2009-1010) and worked with school administrators to insure quality placements for field courses and student teaching. She is a member of the Community Service Advisory Committee in the College of Education. This committee oversees the requirement for a number of education majors of 20 hours of pre-approved community service. Among her current research interests are effective instruction and program design for English language learners, community service and service-learning in higher education, personality and teaching and learning styles, and bullying prevention. She has shared her research in scholarly journals and at regional, national, and international conferences.
Sierra joined the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs in August of 2013. She comes to us as a 2011 alumna from Elizabethtown College where she obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and a minor in Anthropology. Currently, Sierra is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Counselor Education with a dual emphasis in elementary and secondary education. As a new member to both the West Chester University community and to our office, Sierra is very eager to assist students and faculty in coordinating volunteer opportunities. Volunteer opportunities that have been particularly rewarding for her are advocating for the Elle Foundation, INC and being a student e-mentor.
Secretary of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs
Joellen joined the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs in February of 2013. She is originally from Wilmington, DE and is a graduate from Goldey Beacom College with an A.S. Medical Secretarial Degree. She has spent the last twenty five years in various administrative support positions, with an emphasis on finance and procedures/processes in Southern CA, Northern CA, Raleigh, NC and Chadds Ford, PA. Among many volunteer opportunities in her life so far, her most rewarding is teaching pre-school-age children at her church each week.
