Jodi Roth
Director of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs
Jodi joined the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs in July of 2012. She comes to us from Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park, CA, where she was the Coordinator for Community Service at Join Us Making Progress, the hub for public service and volunteerism on campus. The program included a Bonner AmeriCorps program, and consisted of both co-curricular service-learning and academic service-learning. During a period of her previous position she co-chaired the Leadership and Social Justice Conference at UC Berkeley. Prior to moving to California she finished a Master of Arts in Education with a focus on Student Affairs in Higher Education at the University of Connecticut. Before graduate school, Jodi worked in the non-profit sector for Hillel: The Foundation for Jewish Campus Life. Jodi hales from Northern New Jersey and is passionate about helping students become lifelong active citizens.
Martin Helmke, PhD
Faculty Associate for Service-Learning
Martin is an Associate Professor of Geology who is serving as the Faculty Associate for 2012/2013. He has been actively involved with community-engaged geologic research and service-learning for 19 years. He routinely brings students and community members together to collaborate on pressing geologic issues that affect residents in the Philadelphia Region and abroad. Examples include investigating and remediating contaminated groundwater, soil, and sediment; evaluating flood hazard and sinkhole risk; and working with communities to establish water supply. Martin also works side-by-side with WCU students and staff as a Hazardous Materials Technician on the Chester County Hazmat Team, a Rescue Specialist on Pennsylvania Urban Search and Rescue Company 2, and a volunteer Firefighter/EMT with the West Chester Fire Department.
Joellen Reindl
Secretary of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs
Joellen joined the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs in February of 2013. She is originally from Wilmington, DE and is a graduate from Goldey Beacom College with an A.S. Medical Secretarial Degree. She has spent the last twenty five years in various administrative support positions, with an emphasis on finance and procedures/processes in Southern CA, Northern CA, Raleigh, NC and Chadds Ford, PA. Among many volunteer opportunities in her life so far, her most rewarding is teaching pre-school-age children at her church each week.
Julianne Spadine
Graduate Assistant
Julianne started at West Chester University in the fall of 2007. During her undergraduate career, she was a member and an officer of WCU Circle K International and was a student staff member at the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs. She graduated in May 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a minor in Literacy. Currently, Julianne is pursuing a Master’s in Literacy. This will be her second year as the Graduate Assistant for The Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs. As the Graduate Assistant, she helps coordinate volunteer opportunities for West Chester University’s student body and faculty. Some of these opportunities include America Reads, Good Cause Café, Read Across America, and MLK Day of Service. Her passions in life are teaching and volunteering.
Caitlin Mahon
Graduate Student Intern
Caitlin started at West Chester University in the Fall of 2006. During her undergraduate career, she was an Orientation Leader, a sister of Alpha Phi, a Leadership Consultant, and was involved in Relay for Life. She graduated in May 2010 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Communication Studies. Caitlin is currently pursuing a Masters in Higher Educational Counseling and Student Affairs. She is a Graduate Assistant in Sykes Student Union and has an internship in the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs. Caitlin loves to volunteer and hopes to provide students with these same rewarding experiences.
