ResNet provides student access to the Internet and other off-campus computer resources directly from their room. Students must provide their own personal computer and Ethernet Card. There is no charge for this service. Please contact ResNet Central for more information at 610-436-2660 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
WCU ResNet is a joint venture between Residence Life and Housing Services, and Information Services department of Networking, Telecommunications & Operations, connecting residence halls with the campus network. This connection provides direct high-speed access to resources such as Campus Email and the Internet.
All student rooms on campus have one LAN connection for each bed (temporary triples only have two ports available).
Windows XP, Windows Vista or Mac operating system (either desktop or laptop). Other aspects of your computer (memory, etc.) should be sized to adequately operate your desired OS.
Spare ISA or PCI slot for desktop PC's-PCMCIA slot for laptop PC's (unless Ethernet adapter is already installed).
100/1000 base-T Ethernet Card
When students initially attempt to connect to the network from the port in their room, they will automatically be connected to an authentication site which will outline the connection process.
If you selected that you need assistance with your connection, you must take your PC (no monitor, keyboard or mouse needed) to resnet Central on the ground floor of Brandywine Hall for installation of Ethernet card and configuration of network software. Hours will be posted at all residence hall front desks.
Ethernet cards are being sold at Sykes Bookstore.
If you purchase your own card, it must be a 100/1000 BaseT Ethernet card with an RJ-45 jack.
If ResNet Central is to install the card into your machine, they will need the Driver disk that comes with the Ethernet card.
All problems with your connection, password, or Email account should be directed to 610-436-2660. Please leave a message stating your problem, along with your name and student ID number. Any other concerns or questions, you may contact Residence Life and Housing Services at 610-436-3307.
All students will need to go through the same connection/authentication process, even if their computer has operated on the University network previously. The instructions to do this will automatically come up the first time a student plugs into a network port on campus.
In order to send and receive E-mail, all users must have an account. All registered students, faculty, and staff are eligible for one. Students are now automatically signed up when enrolled for classes, and this account is permanent until graduation. First time users will be asked to enter a User ID and Password. Please read West Chester's Email policy regarding the usage of mail accounts. By using your account, you are agreeing to the terms of usage set forth by West Chester University.
