For Parents of Current Resident Students

Spring Break Information

  • All residence halls will close on Friday, March 5, 2010, at 6:00pm. As with previous university-recognized breaks, residents will check-out of their halls with the Resident Assistants (RAs).  All residence halls reopen on Sunday, March 14, at 12:00pm (noon).  Meal plans will resume with dinner on Sunday, March 14
  • Residents are advised to take all belongings with them that may be needed during the break period. Residence Hall rooms will not be accessible during Spring Break.
  • Break housing for pre-approved student athletes will remain in Brandywine and Wayne Halls. Coaches arrange for housing for their athletes based on team schedules. Student athletes required to stay on campus for team commitments do not have to reserve housing independently.
  • Students who live in the South Campus apartments or at The Village at WCU are permitted to remain in their apartments over the break period.  The clubhouse will hold amended hours during the break period, but will open each day for student use.

Housing for 2010-2011

  • By now, every current resident student should have received a packet of information regarding the process for securing housing for the 2009-2010 academic year.  A $200 deposit (or approved waiver application – available at 202 Lawrence) is required to be allowed to participate in any of our processes.  The latest date deposits can be submitted to the Office of the Bursar in order to be assured a campus housing assignment for 2010-2011 is February 15, 2010.  Please follow the other links within our website for more detailed information.
  • Any questions regarding this information should be directed to the Office of Residence Life and Housing Services at housing@wcupa.edu or 610-436-3306. Questions regarding University Hall, Allegheny Hall, Brandywine Hall, or The Village at West Chester University can be directed to the University Student Housing staff at info@wchousing.com or 610-692-7391.

For Parents of Incoming Resident Students for Fall 2010

  • Students who have been admitted as resident students have the opportunity to choose traditional residence halls, managed by the Office of Residence Life and Housing at West Chester University, or one of our two new suite-style halls, managed by University Student Housing, a subsidiary of the West Chester University Foundation.  Students should return their housing preference form in the appropriate envelope at the same time they send in their $400 admissions deposit.  Housing assignments will be made based on availability.
  • Starting in mid-February, our office will send, on a rolling basis, a housing application packet to all accepted resident students who have chosen or who are assigned to the traditional halls and who have paid their initial $400 deposit.  That packet will detail all aspects of the housing program.  Students are asked to complete the housing application, meningitis vaccination information, and the student occupancy agreement.  These materials will need to be returned to our office, and we will use that information to process housing assignments.  Housing assignments are made after the orientation program is over in July and are e-mailed to all campus residents in late July.
  • If students will be seeing their family physician, they should discuss with him or her the meningococcal vaccination.  As of August 2002, Pennsylvania enacted legislation requiring all college students living in campus housing in Pennsylvania to have a meningococcal vaccination. More information is available on the Health and Wellness Center website at:  http://www.wcupa.edu/_services/stu.inf/

For All Parents

Just a Reminder…

  • The University uses students’ WCU e-mail addresses to communicate important information with students (even newly-admitted students after their admissions deposit has been paid.)  Please encourage your student to check their WCU e-mail account daily.  Why not send your student an e-mail to their WCU account just to say, “Hi?”
  • Students’ e-mail addresses are composed of the first initial of their first name and the first initial of their last name followed by the last 6 digits of their University ID number.  John Doe’s WCU e-mail address might look like this: JD123456@wcupa.edu
