Why Do I Need A Flu Shot Every Year?
The virus that causes the flu changes every year. The vaccine is updated yearly with the most common strains of the previous year's virus. An annual flu shot provides the latest, updated protection.
Does the Flu Shot Protect Me Right Away?
No, it takes your body about 2 weeks after the shot to develop enough immunity to protect you.
Who Cannot Have A Flu Shot?
Anyone with an allergy or hypersensitivity to chicken eggs, chicken, or chicken feathers. Anyone with an allergy to thimerosal (a mercury derivative- sometimes found in contact lens solutions as a preservative). Anyone with a fever or acute illness.
Can I get the flu from the Flu Shot?
No. There is no live virus in this injection.
