WHAT IS WCUshadows?
WCUshadows provides students with an opportunity to learn about different careers by shadowing West Chester University alumni who are working in a variety of industries. Exploring career fields is an important part of the career development process. Job shadowing is an excellent way to explore career fields and gain further information about key skills, job responsibilities, work environments, and more. The purpose of the program is to provide students with a realistic understanding of the world of work to help with their career decision-making process.
WCUshadows is co-sponsored by the Career Development Center and the Office of Alumni Relations.
WHY SHOULD YOU PARTICIPATE?
WCUshadows offers students a new way to explore and learn about career options. Through in-person conversations and hands-on activities, students get to see a “day in the life” of professionals. Students are encouraged to set their own goals for the shadowing experience, and each experience will be structured differently to best meet the needs of the participants. Activities may include going on tours, having lunch with professionals, attending meetings, observing organizational projects and procedures, having Q&A sessions, and more. Students will benefit from gaining career advice and developing a strong relationship with professionals.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
WCUshadows is open to all second-year students (30-59 credits). Students from all majors are encouraged to apply. All students must be in good academic standing with the university.
WHEN & WHERE DOES IT HAPPEN?
WCUshadows takes place over the winter session. Students will participate in a job shadow for one day during the week of January 13-17, 2014. Once participants are selected and connect with their alumni hosts, a specific date will be set based on both parties’ availability. Job shadows take place at various locations, depending on the professional and their organization. You can select up to 3 shadowing preferences when you submit your application.
HOW DO YOU APPLY?
We are no longer accepting applications for WCUshadows 2014. Applications for WCUshadows 2015 will be available next fall.
