On-Campus Recruiting Expectations & Policies for Students

All candidates are expected to adhere to these expectations and policies in order to participate in on-campus interviews. For any questions, please contact Preeti Singh, Associate Director, at 610-436-2501 or psingh@wcupa.edu. We also recommend you familiarize yourself with “Your Rights and Responsibilities as a Job Seeker” - the expectations outlined for candidates, career centers and employers by the National Association for Colleges & Employers.

Expectations:

  • Accurately represent your experiences, skills, GPA, and involvements on your resume.
  • Arrive at the Career Center 10 minutes prior to your interview and check-in at the reception area.
  • Dress professionally and bring copies of your resume on cotton-bond/resume quality paper.
  • Research the position and the company.
  • Review the Preparing for Interviews section for presentation, questions and attire tips.
  • Attend all scheduled interviews.
  • Ensure you properly cancel interviews (see Policies below), when applicable and adhere to ethical standards in interviewing activity.

Policies:

Cancellation Policy:

Signing up to interview with an employer is an important commitment. Failure to cancel your interview properly can impact your career as well as WCU’s reputation with the recruiting employer. To cancel an interview up to two business days before the interview date, you must call the Career Center.

A “late cancellation” is any cancellation with less than two business days notice. Late cancellations will require candidates to:

  • Call the Career Center about the missed interview
  • Submit an apology email to the employer and copy Preeti Singh, Associate Director on the email. Email: psingh@wcupa.edu
  • The apology email must be sent within two business days of the missed interview.
  • Failure to comply with this process can result in the suspension of your College Central Network account.

No-Show Policy:

Failure to attend an interview without previous notice is a serious problem and is not acceptable. In order to continue participation in the on-campus recruiting program, you must arrange a meeting with the Associate Director to explain the circumstances of missing the interview. Your College Central Network account will be temporarily suspended until you meet with the Associate Director. You can arrange a meeting by calling the Career Center.

Accepting an Offer:

We ask that all candidates notify the Career Center upon accepting a full-time position or an internship offer by calling the Career Center or logging-in to their College Central Network account and clicking the “Offers/Hires” tab to report this information. We appreciate this information as it is helpful for us to know of our candidates’ successes and where they are being hired.

Upon accepting an offer of employment (for career/full-time positions and internships), we ask candidates to uphold ethical job search standards, refrain from applying to any further positions and immediately withdraw from other interviews or resume submissions by calling the Career Center.

Prior to accepting or declining an offer, it is suggested that candidates call the Career Development Center to discuss options and use the staff as a resource in this decision process.  Accepting an offer is the final step in the job search process and should be considered very carefully.

Reneging on an Offer

Once you make a commitment to an employer and accept an offer, you should have every intention of honoring that commitment. Reneging on an offer received through on-campus recruiting/College Central Network can result in suspension of a candidate’s College Central Network account. If you are thinking about reneging on an accepted offer, you must call the Career Center to schedule an appointment with the Associate Director or Director and discuss circumstances.

Inclement Weather Delays/Closings:

If there is a delayed opening for the University, the Career Center will open at the time indicated by the WCU website.  If you have an interview before the delayed opening time, you are not expected to be at the Center.  For example, if you are scheduled for a 9 a.m. interview and the University opens at 10 a.m. you are not expected to come into the Center at 9 a.m.

If your interview time coincides with the time or is after the time when University opens, you are expected to be in the Career Center. We want you to be safe, so please call us if you are unable to make your interview time.

It is important to stay tuned in to your voicemails and emails or call the office if you are in doubt. The Career Center will be contacting you if there are any changes to the schedule.  Employers may or may not want to reschedule their interviews for the same day or a different date.  In case of a University closing, no scheduled interviews will be held for that day. The Career Center will be contacting you with updates related to the interviews.
