Individual Career Planning:

Professional staff is ready to assist the student with career planning needs. Individual sessions are available by appointment. Because we are truly interested in the student's welfare, we will advise the student if a specific concern is beyond our scope. At that time we will offer the student the opportunity to enlist the services of the on-campus agency which might more appropriately deal with that specific concern, e.g., the Counseling Center, the Academic Advisement Center, the departmental academic advisor, or Health Services.

Workshops and Programs:

Career exploration, job-search strategy, resume writing, interviewing, and graduate school workshops are among the many topics available for presentation to interested groups of students, faculty, and staff.

In addition, other career-related programs are presented occasionally as student interest warrants and staffing permits. Programs might include those which address the career concerns of special interest groups or provide general career information.

Where possible, the Career Development Center attempts to draw on the resources of interested alumni who are often available to consult with students as information resources in a specific career.

Career Resource Library:

Books, pamphlets, videotapes, and other informative resources are available to assist students in making career choices and decisions. Information on federal and state employment, military service, business, and education is included among the sources. Federal and State Civil Service Examination announcements are also available. Corporate information on local, regional, and national firms is also on file. The center also maintains information for the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT), and National Teachers Examination (NTE/Praxis).  An extensive "virtual" library is available through our website - Vault Online Career Library has descriptions of many major companies and career related articles.  This resource is presented by a cooperative effort between the West Chester University LIbrary and the Career Development Center.

Assessment Information:

On-line Assessment tools are available through our website under "Assessment Tools". These values-based systems are designed to assist the individual with career decision making. Follow-up with a career counselor is suggested.

Resumes Needed!:

The center maintains a file of student and alumni resumes which can be faxed to or used by potential employers. Be sure to place a copy on file! Resume development and critiquing is also available.  The simplest way to put your resume on file is to register with our online service, currently College Central Network.  If you need assistance developing a resume, look at our online resume booklet with samples.  If you would like it reviewed/critiqued, you may submit it via email or drop a copy off to our office.

Placement Services:

Assistance is available to enable students and alumni in finding postgraduate employment. In addition to on-campus recruiting, information is available on current job listings, referral directories of schools, businesses, social service agencies, and overseas employment as well as electronic resume databases and resume referral. We are able to provide current information on the job market. Professional assistance is available upon request.

On-Campus Interviews/Resume Referral:

Each semester a variety of employers interview job applicants in the center. Students interested should consult the campus interview schedule and sign up for appropriate interviews. A resume-referral system is also available whereby a candidate may submit a resume to be sent to the participating employer. Updated interview and resume referral information is available in the Career Development Center.  An account (registration) on College Central Network is required to participate in the On Campus Recruiting (OCR).
