1. Who is eligible to participate?

All undergraduate students currently enrolled at WCU are eligible to participate in the Intramural Sports program. You will be responsible for providing a valid WCU ID card before playing.

2. How do I register to play, either as a Free Agent (an individual who wants to participate, but has no team), or with a team?

We now have On-Line Registration. Click on the link and follow directions. All of our IM sports are listed for the specific semester. If you prefer to obtain an actual team entry form or individual entry form you can stop by the Campus Rec Office in Ehinger Gymnasium, room 133, during normal business hours.

3. I am a former intercollegiate player, can I still participate in the intramural sports program?

Individuals who have completed their intercollegiate eligibility as detemined by the NCAA in a given sport will be eligible for participation in that sport or related sport after two consecutive academic semesters (not including summer sessions) have transpired. No more than two former intercollegiate athletics can be on the same team roster in the same intramural sport. These participants must be identified on the roster.

4. I am a sport club member, can I still participate in the intramural sports program?

Sport Club members will be eligible to participate in our intramural sports program, in the same sport or related sport, under the following conditions: 1) in a single gender activity no more than two sport club members may be listed on the same intramural team roster, 2) in a Co - Rec acitivity, only one male and one female sport club member may be listed on the same intramural team roster. These participants must be identified on the roster.

5. I am a former professional athlete, can I still participate in the intramural sports program?

Our definition of "professionl athlete" will be the following: 1) any individual/s who has received payment for playing, including appearance money, and 2) any individual/s who is recognized by the sport's governing body as a professional. These individuals will be eligible to participate, provided that they have not played or received payment for services for a period of five years.

6. How much does it cost to play intramural sports?

When entering a team in a "league" the registration fee is $35 per team. When entering a team in a "tournament" the registration fee is $20. When a team is formed by all Free Agents, a captain should be selected to represent the team and collect the appropriate registration fee in order to participate as a team. For individual/dual intramural sports, the registration fee is $5.

7. What type of leagues or tournaments do you offer?

A full listing of our leagues and tournaments per semester are cited in our intramural sports link. We provide divisions in Men, Women, and Co-Rec.

8. How many games do teams play during the regular season?

With the limited of indoor and outdoor space teams in league play will have a minimum of six games, depending on weather. If eligible for playoffs, then more games will be played. In tournament play, your team is guaranteed two games.

9. How many intramural teams can I play on?

Individuals may not play on more than one team in the same intramural sport in the same division. The only exception is for an individual playing on an Open team and a Fraternity team; however, a student cannot play on two Open teams in the same division.

10. I am interested in registering a team and being the IM captain. What are my responsibilities?

In the IM Handbook, page 8, lists the responsibilities of an IM Captain. Team captains' play a vital role in the intramural sports program. They provide leadership and serve as an important liasion between the team and Campus Rec Office.
