Twardowski Career Development Center

The Twardowski Career Development Center (TCDC) is the bridge connecting students and alumni to the professional world, introducing them to who they can become.  The TCDC helps students and alumni launch into their first, or next, professional endeavor by providing services, programs and resources in support of an individual’s career exploration and professional development. TCDC services, such as career assessments, resume review, job and internship search strategy and interview preparation, help individuals make connections with employers and alumni and find their future. Check out the TCDC’s online resources at http://www.wcupa.edu/cdc.

Designing Your Career Plan

Career development is a lifelong process of learning about, and acting in congruence with, your interests, skills, and values; exploring options; making decisions; and implementing a plan to pursue your goals. Start that exploration early-your future self will thank you! To make an appointment with a career counselor to start your career journey, login to your Handshake account at wcupa.joinhandshake.com and click “Career Center.”

Access Career and Professional Development Resources

The TCDC website has videos, infographics and links to other relevant websites to help you explore and learn.  In addition to the information on the website, Handshake (job and internship board) and Ram Nation (mentoring platform) are designed to connect you with opportunities, employers and alumni who can give you insight into an industry, employer, job function or available opportunities. In addition, utilize Big Interview to practice your interview skills and get feedback on your responses to questions.

Building Your Network

Networking is one of the most effective job and internship search strategies, and your approach can differ based on the job you are targeting, or your personality. The TCDC has systems in place that allow for networking online with alumni, through LinkedIn, and/or in person with employers. Check the calendar in Handshake and follow us on social media to stay up to date with upcoming events and opportunities to engage, or schedule time with a career counselor to discuss your personal approach to networking.

Connect With Employers

Handshake is a one-stop career management platform for WCU students and alumni. Hundreds of jobs and internships are posted weekly. All WCU students have an account in Handshake, and you can use your university login to access it.

The TCDC also offers an Interviewing program in which employers interview students for jobs and internships on campus or through zoom.

Finally, the TCDC organizes three career fairs per year, as well as industry specific meet ups to connect you with employers who want to hire WCU students for job and internship opportunities. The TCDC participates in consortiums that offer industry-specific fairs, such as education and nonprofit. Check Handshake for upcoming fairs, both on campus and within the region, or meet with a career counselor to discuss which events will provide the best use of your time, given your goals.
