Impact to Parking
Getting around
Campus During Construction
West
Chester University typically faces a tight parking situation on campus, but
this semester we will face even greater challenges. The location and scope of
several construction projects that will help WCU meet the current and future
needs of students will temporarily impact campus parking and traffic.
The
timing of some of this work is unfortunate but with the cooperation of all
members of our community, West Chester University can collectively meet these
challenges. We ask for your patience as we strive to improve services and
facilities for all of us.
Know Your Parking
Options
The
University campus lots can accommodate approximately 5,080 parked cars; and,
while not all lots may be the most convenient to your office or classroom, frequent
shuttle buses are available to transport you from two areas on north campus (S.
Church St and Wayne Hall) to south campus academic buildings and parking
lots. You can obtain campus parking maps
and campus bus service schedules at Philips Information Desk, Public Safety in
Peoples Building, Sykes Student Union, Human Resources or through the University
website peak
hours shuttle (9:45 a.m. to 2 p.m.) labeled "R Lot" joins the fleet
this fall, running as an express bus from the South Campus parking lots to
North Campus. The East Campus Loop shuttle also runs only during peak hours
(7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.).
As
an incentive to park on South Campus and use the shuttle service for the full
academic year, Public Safety is offering any person who is eligible to park on
north campus an opportunity to obtain a free Q Lot permit and enter a monthly
drawing for an electronic device valued at $500. Information for this drawing
can be found at the Parking Services window at Public Safety in the Peoples
Building.
Approximately
70 new parking spaces for faculty, staff and students are available at 202
Carter Drive (WCU Foundation building) near M1 Lot. In October, 34 spaces will come online at the WCU Post Office’s new
location at 887 South Matlack St.
The
Student Recreation Center has 85 new spaces, available for lease by the hour,
or via a permit; for information on purchasing a permit for that lot, call
610-436-9689.
L
Lot, which is across the street from Wayne Hall, has been extended to provide
an additional 42 spaces, and a new 39 space temporary lot is planned adjacent
to Wayne Hall.
There
are three newly designated "Ride Share" spots in G, D and K lots to promote
carpooling.
Want to know where are there open spots right now? Check out
the new mobile app http://m.wcupa.edu/parking.aspx developed by the WCU IT Department.
Alternative
transportation might include the use of two new Zipcars, (housed
in D Lot near Lawrence Hall), SEPTA's
bus service, walking or biking. The WCU Bicycle Use Pledge Program is designed to reduce the number of vehicles being driven to campus by
promoting the use of bicycles.
The Projects
•
Construction for new geothermal wells behind Sykes (K lot) will commence
October 1st and is scheduled to completed before the Spring 2013
semester, reopening parking spaces for employees and students in advance of the

construction area, temporary parking and relocated parking around Sykes
• On
October 8th, construction will begin in F lot (West Nields and South
New streets) for a new parking structure which will open in Fall,
2013. The existing surface lot has 180 spaces; the new structure will offer 452
spots.
•
In late December, 2012, the Sanderson commuter lot on South New Street will be
