International Conference on Globalization and Higher Education

I. Background and Significance
The end of the Cold War brought increasing global economic, social, and cultural integration accompanied by transnational social movements. Today’s students are global citizens. How can higher education respond to the forces of globalization? What can educators do to ensure that our students can be successful in the age of globalization, so that they can promote a peaceful and just world for every citizen?
To identify the roles of higher education in the process of globalization, to collect data regarding which educational policies and programs work and why, to exchange ideas and experiences, to explore opportunities and ways to educate our students to become global citizens, Guizhou University, West Chester University of Pennsylvania, and the Association of Universities of Asia and Pacific are jointly sponsoring an international conference on Globalization and Higher Education between May 16 and 20, 2004 at Guizhou Park Hotel, Guiyang, Guizhou Province, China. The conference invites a variety of research studies relevant to educational policy and practice for Chinese educators as well as educators from across the world. The conference welcomes different types of evidence-based, methodologically sound research articles, including basic research reports, historical reviews, case studies, and program evaluations. Literature review articles that raise important questions are also welcome.
II. Topics
Keynote addresses and concurrent sessions are scheduled from May 16 to May 18, 2004. Presentations at the international conference may include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

Curriculum and Instruction
New Development of Higher Education in China
Student Assessment and Evaluation
University Partnership and Community Development
Program Accreditation
Pedagogical Studies
Interdisciplinary Studies
Faculty Development and Faculty Scholarship
Faculty Evaluation System, Tenure and Promotion
Informational Technology, Teaching and Learning
Comparative Studies of Higher Education
III. Cultural Study Field Experiences
The conference will organize cultural study field experiences on May 19 and May 20, 2004. These include national-level scenic spots: Huang Guo Shu, Tian Xin Bridge, or Dragon Palace, and Miaozhai, a well known minority reservation in China.
IV. Presentation Proposal
If you wish to present a paper at the conference, you should submit a single-spaced one-page presentation abstract, curriculum vitae (less than 4 pages), and presentation application form to Dr. Wei Wei Cai at WCAI@WCUPA.EDU by March 15, 2004. You will receive a letter regarding whether your presentation proposal is being accepted by the conference planning committee before March 30, 2004.
V. Conference Registration
All conference participants including presenters and non-presenters should
submit the conference registration form to Professor Mao Jian-lin at
JLMAO@TMAIL.GZU.EDU.CN by April 25, 2004. Early conference registration is
highly encouraged.

Registration Fee:
$200 US Dollars (USD) (This fee includes local transportation from the airport to hotel, attending conference sessions, banquet, cultural show, all meals, coffee break services, and the cultural study field experiences. This fee does not include international airfare, domestic airfare in China, lodging, and other fees.)
A special hotel rate, about $45USD per day, is available from May 15 to 22, 2004. The conference planning committee will try to help you find a roommate, however, there are no guarantees.
