 I.          Background and Significance

The end of the Cold War brought increasing global economic, social, and cultural integration accompanied by transnational social movements. Today’s students are global citizens. How can higher education respond to the forces of globalization? What can educators do to ensure that our students can be successful in the age of globalization, so that they can promote a peaceful and just world for every citizen?

To identify the roles of higher education in the process of globalization, to collect data regarding which educational policies and programs work and why, to exchange ideas and experiences, to explore opportunities and ways to educate our students to become global citizens, Guizhou University, West Chester University of Pennsylvania, and the Association of Universities of Asia and Pacific are jointly sponsoring an international conference on Globalization and Higher Education between May 16 and 20, 2004 at Guizhou Park Hotel, Guiyang, Guizhou Province, China. The conference invites a variety of research studies relevant to educational policy and practice for Chinese educators as well as educators from across the world. The conference welcomes different types of evidence-based, methodologically sound research articles, including basic research reports, historical reviews, case studies, and program evaluations.
