Study Abroad

Overview

All of the study abroad programs available at West Chester University are open to students in the State System of Higher Education (SSHE) - these include: Bloomsburg, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, and Slippery Rock. West Chester University programs are not open to students outside of SSHE. Programs coordinated by other SSHE universities are often open to West Chester University students. West Chester University students are eligible to study abroad through any accredited program coordinated by any U.S. university that allows students to enter their program. Each semester there are a minimum of 10 seminars available at West Chester University for WCU students interested in spending a semester or year studying in another country. The seminars provide information about locations, financial aid, scholarships, academics, estimated costs, and general topics. The schedule of seminars is available at the Center for International Programs McKelvie Hall, 102 W. Rosedale Avenue.

How to Plan a Semester Study Abroad Program:

  1. Decide what semester you want to study abroad
  2. Save 3 or 4 of your general education requirements for that semester. The best are in the areas of Humanities and Behavioral & Social Sciences (history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, geography, art).
  3. Attend a Study Abroad Seminar sponsored by the Center for International Programs (CIP) at least one year before your planned study abroad semester.
  4. Read the pamphlet provided by the CIP on Study Abroad - available at the CIP office.
  5. Talk to your academic advisor - be sure you fully understand what courses you need for graduation.
