Academic Requirements
If you have followed a solid college preparatory program, rank
in top half of your graduating class, and score a minimum 500
critical reading and 500 math on the
SAT, your application will be given serious consideration for
regular admission. Please be advised, certain
academic majors will require higher test scores and rank as well
as specific course prerequisites.
Not all freshman applicants
demonstrate their potential for college success in clear-cut,
traditional ways. West Chester provides two special admissions
opportunities for students who demonstrate the potential to be
successful if they enroll initially in the fall with a reduced
course load, or attend the summer developmental program prior to fall enrollment. A limited number of students are
accommodated and only Pennsylvania residents are eligible for
admissions consideration for the summer program. If you apply
to the University and do not meet the standards for regular
admission, you may be considered for special admissions if
eligible. |
Freshman
Procedures
You are considered a
freshman applicant if you have graduated or will graduate from
high school before entering West Chester University and have
not attended college since completing your secondary school
program. (If you have a GED and have not taken any college
course work, you are also a freshman applicant.)
You should begin the
application process for the fall semester early in your senior
year of high school, preferably by December 1. If interested in
spring semester enrollment, you should complete your application
by November 1. We encourage students to take advantage of
applying electronically. Please make sure you review all
application instructions and follow the recommended steps for
submitting the application and the High School Counselor Form.
To be considered for
freshman admission, you must submit the following:
- A completed "Application for Admissions"
- Personal Statement
- $35 application fee
- Official high school transcript that includes a listing of your senior year courses (if applying electronically the transcript should be attached to the High School Counselor Form prior to being mailed to the Office of Admissions)
- Official results of the SAT or ACT (if you have been out of high school more than 5 years test scores are not required)
- If you have received a GED you must submit an official copy of the score report as well as a high school transcript
