FY11 and Beyond: Open, Collaborative, and Transparent

The reduction scenarios for FY10 were made with an eye to protecting the university's core mission. However, due to the urgency of revising the budget to adjust for the flat appropriation in time for the start of the fiscal year, the process still lent itself to a trimming around the edges. We want to approach FY11 and beyond in a fundamentally different way, and to begin by seeing the dim budget forecast as an opportunity to realign our strategic plan, our needs, our mission, and our resources.

If we are to rethink the way we "do business" around here and maintain academic excellence, we will need to engage the faculty and the rest of the campus in meaningful ways. We want to engage in an open, collaborative, and transparent process so we can make future resource decisions in more purposeful and strategic ways. To that end, we have initiated plans to share information and to solicit ideas from the campus community. Among the plans being considered are information sessions, open forums, as well as the development of the Provost's web site to include an FAQ page and to provide access to related documents and news and updates regarding budget and resources.
