Writing Institute

What will you do in a Writing Institute?

  • Write in diverse genres in a writing workshop
  • Breathe life into tired writing by participating in an energetic community of writers
  • Read current professional literature on the teaching of writing
  • Experience writing and teaching strategies that work with all students, K - 12
  • Prepare one presentation to share an effective writing strategy
  • Explore an issue central to your teaching
  • Create a professional presentation on a writing activity of your choice

Writing Institutes are offered in two locations in the summer of 2013. One is held at West Chester University's Graduate Business Center, coordinated by Brenda Krupp and Rich Mitchell. The other is held at the Bucks County Intermediate Unit in Doylestown, coordinated by Chris Kehan and Maryellen Kenney. Participants meet for two 1/2 days in the Spring, three weeks in the Summer, and five dates in the Fall.

West Chester

Spring: April 20 + May 18, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Summer: July 1 - 3, 8 - 12, and 15 - 18, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Fall: Sept. 26, Oct. 17, 5 - 8:30 p.m.

         Oct. 5 + Nov. 2, 8:30 - noon

Nov. 7 - Closing celebration

Bucks County

Spring: April 20 + May 11, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Summer: July 1 - 3, 8 - 12, and 15 - 18, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Fall: Sept. 26, Oct. 3, 10, and 17, 5 - 8:30 p.m.

Nov. 6 - Closing celebration

 

Teachers K - 12 with at least three years experience may apply. An application, endorsement from an administrator or Fellow of the Project, and interview are required. Please call the PAWLP Office at 610-436-2202 or e-mail smalarney@wcupa.edu for an application form or more information. Applications are considered on a rolling admission basis. Enrollment is limited. Stipends from the National Writing Project are available to help defray costs.
