Reading and Literature Institute

What will you do in a Reading and Literature Institute?

  • Read diverse genres of literature as a community of readers, some assigned, some self-selected
  • Experience literature circles, grade level groups, and whole class formats
  • Read current professional literature on the teaching of reading, literature, and literacy, with opportunities to pursue topics of individual interest
  • Experience reading and teaching strategies appropriate for all students across the curriculum
  • Create a professional presentation on a reading activity of your choice

The Reading and Literature Institute will be held at West Chester University's Graduate Business Center. Participants meet two Saturdays in the Spring, three weeks in the Summer, and five dates in the Fall.

 

Spring: April 20 + May 18, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Summer: July 1 - 3, 8 - 12, and 15 - 18, 8 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Fall: September 26 + October 17, 5 - 8:30 p.m.

         October 5 + November 2, 8:30 a.m. - noon

         November 7 - Closing celebration

Teachers K - 12 with at least three years experience may apply. An application, endorsement from an administrator or Fellow of the Project, and interview are required. Enrollment is limited. Stipends from the National Writing Project are available to help defray costs.
