Reading and Writing to Learn Social Studies, 4 - 12

This new course is designed for intermediate, middle and high school social studies teachers who want to help students use reading and writing to learn social studies. In this class you will share strategies for reading social studies texts and writing in social studies class as well as develop lessons that incorporate social studies literacy strategies. You will examine how students can increase their social studies literacy and become more successful in every aspect of the field including history and geography. You will also learn to apply PSSA standards to your own curriculum. A social studies teacher with 35 years experience will help to mentor participants in their learning.
