This course is designed for content area teachers interested in developing their professional instruction for English language learners. Using theory and best practice from Sheltered Instruction, teachers will successfully implement reading and writing strategies geared to ELLs in their content area. Combining the best of PAWLP and Sheltered Instruction, teachers will gain the necessary tools for ELL success.
During the week, participants can expect to read and respond to a variety of educational articles focused on recent ELL research and pedagogy. Participants will have multiple opportunities to interact with peer professionals and share relevant experience. Participants will also adapt their “tried and true” lessons to make it more accessible for ELL students. Finally, as a culminating experience, participants will present content lessons using learned strategies and ELL best practices.
