Quotes from past participants
"My name is Whitney Moore and I participated in the BEST club last semester. The things I enjoyed about the program include getting to know someone that I would never have reached out to on my own. The older woman I met was extremely nice and enjoyed meeting me as much as I did her. I was very interested and intrigued by all of the things she shared with me, even though she thought that her life was uneventful. I also enjoyed providing her with a book of the work we did together. She was very happy when she got it at the luncheon. Overall, this was one of the best experiences I have had since I became a social work major and I would do it again in a second."
"I really enjoyed my time doing the Best project. It gave me the opportunity to use interview skills that I did not get to use in my internship. I think that anyone participating in the Best project will get more out of it than just practicing social work skills" -Kendra
"My older adult and I used to have lunch together after our interview at the WC Senior Center. It was always a good time, since all the other older adults there were interested in talking to me since I was the youngest person in the room. My older adult and I would interview for over an hour, and sometimes he would let me look through albums of old pictures. It was rewarding for me to let him talk about his life, since his children lived pretty far away and he didn't get to see them much, so I knew that being able to have me visit once a week was something he began to look forward to. I liked this project because I was able to get to know someone that had different life experiences than me, and it was a good way to see how times have changed, but in many ways, have stayed the same." - Danielle Yingling
"I was really nervous about completing the BEST Project at first, but my lady ended up being very nice. After meeting her, I realized what a sweet person she was. She would pick me up from school and take me to her house since I didn't have a car. She even bought me lunch one day. She was very willing to share information with me and seem interested in the project as well. When it was all over, I was a little sad knowing that I found out this lady's whole life story in three sessions, and probably would never see her again." - Natashja Rinaldo
"I think the most positive experience I had with participating in the BEST Club was that it was an opportunity for me to break out of my shell and meet someone that I never knew before. It was a great experience to be able to meet someone and learn so much about their lives. It was also great to see my partner and his wife's face when they looked through the book that I made for them. I learned a lot of great interview skills during this project that have helped me with my internships." - Leah Zellers
