Dear prospective students,
The West Chester University Master of Social Work Program is an emerging leader in social work education. The Council on Social Work Education initially accredited the program in 2001. Our goal is to provide students with the knowledge and professional experiences necessary for direct practice with individuals and families. The driving force behind our program stems from a strong commitment to our social work roots: community action, social justice, and the enhanced well-being of vulnerable populations. The curriculum is designed around a strong belief that combining practice skills with research and scholarship provides the essential ingredients for addressing social issues in the 21st century.
Faculty and students work together to address major concerns such as welfare reform, child welfare, mental health, and the resultant need for crisis intervention and mediation. Diverse field internships provide opportunities designed to facilitate culturally competent practice in a broad range of settings including education, mental health, veteran affairs, addictions, and aging.
The West Chester University MSW Program is unique in its emphasis on direct practice with individuals and families. Faculty members invite students to join them as graduate assistants in a broad range of cutting-edge research projects.
The full-time and part-time programs are offered on the West Chester University campus, with a part-time MSW Program offered at 701 Market Street in Center City Philadelphia. The Program provides many opportunities for social work experience with a rich variety of clients in many diverse settings. Our graduates contribute to the well-being of Chester County, the city of Philadelphia, the surrounding tri-state area, and the larger social work community.
I look forward to your joining our stimulating and collegial community and to working together on behalf of client well-being and social justice.
