Dean’s Message

Lori Vermeulen

Welcome to the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) at West Chester University! The CAS is not only the programs of study that we offer, but the people who make up CAS, from administration, staff, faculty, and especially the students.

One thing that was critically important in my personal college experience was the opportunity to work directly with a professor on a research project. It was this experience that changed my life, igniting the passion for my discipline that eventually led me to graduate school and to a career in academia. In CAS, there are ample opportunities like this. Exciting undergraduate research projects are available across many disciplines.

Our professors are universally committed to student success. These scholars routinely include students in the exciting work and research within their disciplines. In this capacity, faculty serve not only as teachers, scholars, and advisors, but also as mentors. They challenge students to work toward the CAS goal of excellence in education.

CAS programs prepare students for future professions and advanced studies in their scholarly fields. The programs offered by the College of Arts and Sciences provide students with the analytical and communication skills necessary for every profession. Our students learn to think critically, communicate effectively, and respond thoughtfully to diversity. As a result, students develop an appreciation for the complexity of the issues they will face, both in the workplace and in our rapidly changing world.

I invite you to learn more about our programs and the opportunities that we offer by further exploring our website. Additionally, please feel free to stop in and visit the CAS Dean’s Office on the first floor of the Anderson Building
