Dr. Lawrence Davidson
Professor

Lawrence Davidson got his BA from Rutgers University (1967) and MA from Georgetown University (1969).  He then went to Canada for further graduate work and received his Ph.D. from the University of Alberta (1976).   

Professor Davidson teaches Middle East History and also courses in the History of Science and Modern European Intellectual History. 

Professor Davidson’s research centers on the history of United States relations with the Middle East.  Professor Davidson travels often and widely in the Middle East.  He also has taken on the role of public intellectual in order to explain the realities of U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East for American audiences.

Professor Davidson has published the following books:   America’s Palestine: Popular and Official Perceptions from Balfour to Israeli Statehood (University Press of Florida, 2001), Islamic Fundamentalism (Greenwood Press, 2003), co-author with Arthur Goldschmidt of the Concise History of the Middle East, 8th and 9th  Editions (Westview Press, 2006 and 2009). He has recently published Foreign Policy, Inc.: Privatizing American National Interest with the University Press of Kentucky (2009).   In addition, Professor Davidson has published over 25 articles on the Middle East, U.S. foreign policy, and other topics in various academic journals.  He presents papers yearly at professional conferences such as those of the Middle East Studies Association.
