Creative Writing Concentration

Creative Thesis Project Required
(33-36 semester hours)

The Creative Writing Concentration is a flexible, year-round program that allows students to develop their craft through an individualized program that meets their needs. The small class sizes allow students to workshop and work individually with nationally and internationally recognized scholars.  It also offers the opportunity to work with Aralia Press, a nationally renowned literary fine press, and take part in the internationally recognized WCU Poetry Conference. 

 

Required (9-12 semester hours)

              1. ENG 501 Literary Theory

              2. ENG 504 Methods and Materials of Publishing

              3. ENG 620 M.A. Essay

 

Course Selection (12 semester hours)

              4. Four poetry and/or fiction workshops

 

Electives (12 semester hours)

              5. Four electives from any course in General Topics and Theory, American Literature, English                   Literature, Comparative Literature, Composition and Rhetoric, and Research and Special Topics

 

Additional Requirements

              6. At least one course must be in a non-canonical topic
