A limited number of graduate assistantships are available. They are assigned to qualified students based on their GPAs. Students who are interested in applying for an assistantship should check the appropriate box on the application form.
Students who are provisionally accepted, are in the Post-baccalaureate Certification Program, or who have less than a 3.0 GPA are not considered eligible for an assistantship.
Typically, the English Department offers half-time assistantships, which include tuition compensation for six credits a semester and a stipend of $2,250 for the academic year. Half-time graduate assistants work ten hours a week in a field related to English. It is possible for students to combine two half-time assistantships, which in return for twenty hours of work per week, would include tuition compensation for up to twelve credits a semester and a stipend of $5,000 for the academic year.
Currently, graduate assistants can work for College Literature, the Poetry Center, and help with faculty research.
Although not awarded by the English Department, assistantships are also available in the Writing Center and with Writing Zones.
