New High End NMR Instrumentation Installed

West Chester University’s Department of Chemistry recently acquired a new Bruker 400 MHz multinuclear Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectrometer, funded by a National Science Foundation grant awarded to Drs. Azam and Goodson and a donation from Cephalon Pharmaceuticals. This instrument uses the same technology behind medicinal MRI imaging. The spectra obtained from this powerful instrument provide information on the structure of organic, inorganic and biological compounds. The instrument is being used in research performed by undergraduates, as well as in advanced organic and biochemistry classes. The attached picture shows Jim Tocyloski (a WCU senior chemistry major) and Dr. Ressner using the new instrument to work on an assignment for Dr. Ressner’s Advanced Organic Spectroscopy class (CHE 460).
