The Applied Mindfulness Conference at West Chester University is a learning event for exploring how mindfulness meditation and other contemplative practices can be applied to everyday activities in order to foster health and well-being in workplaces, institutions and communities. This conference is designed for participants to engage in contemplative activities and to share their insights by participating in presentations, workshops, discussion groups, and informal ad hoc gatherings.

The Conference's objectives are to:

  • assemble people who are interested in applying mindfulness and contemplative practices in secular settings and non-traditional venues;

  • introduce mindfulness meditation and contemplative practices to a wide audience: business and non-profits, the professions (e.g., law, medicine, education), the arts, and other organizational settings (e.g., schools, hospitals, colleges. prisons);

  • explore the issues and challenges encountered in extending mindfulness meditation and contemplative practices into diverse settings;

  • develop a community of similarly motivated people interested in exploring applied mindfulness topics more deeply;

 

The conference is committed to creating an atmosphere that fosters five values:

  • Community-supporting communities that promote compassion, physical health and emotional resilience;

  • Openness-promoting candor, non-aggression and authentic communications among all conference participants and all contemplative traditions;

  • Humor-encouraging the natural playfulness and kindness of the human heart.
