Tech Center Purpose

The purpose of the Tech Center is to support technology integration throughout West Chester University's teacher preparation program. The Tech Center provides hardware and software for use in the Center and for loan. Its staff maintains a technology service in the College of Education and schedules training to increase technology skills and to master integration strategies. The ultimate goal of Tech Center activities is College of Education faculty who are technology-proficient role models for students.

To Reserve Equipment

Faculty Loan Policy

  • Equipment may be borrowed by Teacher Education faculty for use in the classroom, at professional meetings, and for research purposes.
  • Faculty should first check if their department has the equipment (e.g., laptops) before arranging a loan.
  • Equipment should be requested at least 3 days in advance.
  • The initial loan period is three days and loans may be renewed if equipment is not requested by others. Special arrangements for longer loan periods may be made on occasion.

Student Loan Policy

  • Education students may borrow most equipment to use for presentations and Teacher Education assignments.
  • Some equipment (e.g., camcorders) is available for use in the field – with permission of the Tech Center staff.
  • Equipment should be requested 3 days in advance of need.
  • Late fees may be incurred, if equipment is not returned after 3 days .

LiveText

LiveText is an online application that is used by the College of Education for assessment, lesson plans, portfolios, clearances, and student teacher applications. Assistance and Training are provided by Mary Byrnes, LiveText Coordinator, R 310B.

Training

Tech Center staff provides training on both hardware and software. Training is delivered in a workshop setting as well as individually. Training includes workshops on hardware, software, and technology integration for both beginning and advanced users. Contact the Tech Center for the schedule.

MediaSite

Room 311 is equiped to record presentations that could be viewed "Live", or archived for on-line courses, and other future use.

Book the room and Tech Center resource at least 3 days in advance.

Student Teachers - Laptops

Students may borrow a PC or Mac laptop for the entire semester that they will be student teaching. The laptop is loaned out at the beginning of the semester, and returned during final exam week.

All laptops have Microsoft Office and SMARTBoard Notebook software installed on them.

Tech Service

Tech Center staff will help faculty with setting up and troubleshooting equipment. We prefer to troubleshoot or set up well in advance of need. While we make every attempt to respond to emergencies, staff availability is limited. We cannot always respond immediately!! Please note availability during evening hours is limited.
