LIST OF COLLEGE OF EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS

All scholarships below require an application, unofficial transcript and a personal statement.
Please note that some scholarships may require additional documents which are indicated below.

Carlos Ziegler Scholarship

will support a third-year Early & Middle Grades Education major with a minimum GPA of 3.0, has demonstrated leadership and shows potential as a teacher. Application also requires a letter of recommendation from a professor.

Charlotte E. King Scholarship

will support a student majoring in Early and Middle Grades Education. Recipient is selected by a committee from the Early and Middle Grades Department. Application also requires a letter of recommendation.

Cherry Memorial Merit Scholarship

will support commuting, second-year Education majors with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Cheryl Hamel School Counselor Memorial Scholarship

will support a full or part-time graduate student pursing a Master's Degree in Elementary or Secondary School Counseling with a minimum, GPA of 3.5. Application also requires a letter of recommendation.

Class of 1928 - Tigani Scholarship

will support an undergraduate student with a Reading minor with at least nine credits completed or one semester remaining and a minimum overall GPA of 3.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.5 in Reading. Application also requires a letter of recommendation.

Doris Rosencranz Marshall Education Scholarship

will support an African American undergraduate Secondary Education student with high academic achievement who is seeking certification as a Secondary Education English teacher.

Elva Boyer Chamberlain Scholarship

will support an undergraduate student majoring in Education with demonstrated financial need. (FAFSA form must be on file with the Financial Aid Office)

Farilla Elizabeth McKinnon Book Award

will support a second-year Early and Middle Grades Education major with a minimum GPA of 3.0. A preference will be given to students of African American descent who are residents of New Jersey.

Janet L. Wallace Education Scholarship

will support an Early and Middle Grades Education major or a Counselor Education major, with preference given to students from Lancaster County.

John Gontar 1932 Scholarship

will support a third or fourth-year student majoring in Secondary Education with a minimum GPA of 3.0. A preference will be given to a graduate of Morrisville High School, Morrisville, PA. Application also requires a letter of recommendation.

John Holingjak and Kathleen Wheeler Scholarship

will support an undergraduate student in the College of Education with demonstrated financial need and/or who is most deserving. (FAFSA form must be on file with the Financial Aid Office)

Leah Gallagher Riddle Scholarship

will support a fourth-year student majoring in Early and Middle Grades Education with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who shows the greatest promise of classroom teaching.

Margaret Gontar 1932 Scholarship

will support a third or fourth-year student majoring in Secondary Education with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to graduates of Bristol H.S. Application also requires a letter of recommendation.

Marion Peters Irvin 1923 Scholarship

will support a second, third or fourth-year student majoring in Education with a commitment to teaching and demonstrated financial need. (FAFSA form must be on file with the Financial Aid Office)

Mary L. Turner

Hopkins Scholarship will support a fourth-year student majoring in Special Education.

McCarthy Family Scholarship

will support a student majoring in Special Education. Application requires an essay explaining how the student plans on using their degree to serve non-verbal special needs students.

Military Order of the Purple Heart Scholarship

will support a non-traditional student majoring in Special Education who intends to become a certified teacher of those with mental and physical disabilities. Application also requires a written statement of career goals.

Norine E. and John F. Murphy ’43 Endowed Educational Scholarship

will support an undergraduate student in Education with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who is currently working to pay for some of his/her education and whose ultimate goal is to pursue teaching.

R. Walter Supplee Scholarship will support a third year Early and Middle Grades Education major with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Randilyn Williams Annual Scholarship will support a full-time, second year, female student majoring in Education with a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need who is a resident of New Jersey. (FAFSA form must be on file with the Financial Aid Office).

Samuel Martin Scholarship will support an Education major with demonstrated financial need with a proven ability for classroom teaching. Application also requires a letter of recommendation from a field experience teacher. (FAFSA form must be on file with the Financial Aid Office).

Shirley Walters Memorial Research Scholarship

will support a graduate student majoring in Secondary Education, involved in scholarly research with a minimum GPA of 3.25.

Teacher with a Mission Scholarship

will provide financial support to an undergraduate, post-baccalaureate or graduate Education student pursuing a career in teaching in an urban setting or in the field of environmental education with a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Terrie Ozelis Memorial Scholarship

will support an Early and Middle Grades Education major with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who demonstrates potential to be an outstanding teacher in the field-based coursework at WCU. Application also requires a letter of recommendation from a field experience teacher.
