Community Service Activities: Berks County Heritage Center is looking for excited youth with a passion for history to help as volunteer tour guides for the Gruber Wagon Works. Duties include learning about the Gruber Wagon Works and being able to field any questions which may be raised by people taking a tour of the Wagon Works.

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary

Community Service Activities: Training is required:
Group Program Assistant - Assist staff with guided school or civic group hikes and programs for children and adults; weekdays and weekends

Weekend programs - Present live raptor* and special programs to visitors

Group Greeter - Greet arriving visitors and groups; present ten minute talk about Sanctuary trails and trail etiquette

Native Plant Garden Walks - Inform visitors about the use of native plants on their property to benefit wildlife and the environment; weekends
Group introductions - Present history of Hawk Mountain and overview of migration dynamics to visiting student and public groups; weekdays

* Opportunities to handle live birds may be available to volunteers who are at least 18 years of age and complete training and apprenticeship.

I-LEAD Charter School

The I-LEAD Charter School serves youth disconnected from school with the opportunity to re-engage in their education and transition successfully into adulthood.

Community Service Activities: I-LEAD Charter School seeks volunteer tutors for reading, writing and math to serve our high school students (grades 9-12) in the afterschool hours (approximately 3:30-5:00). Tutors will primarily help with homework and assignments, coaching students to understand assignment instructions, provide instruction in basic reading and math concepts to guide student through assignment, and encourage completion and achievement. Additional learning materials may be available.

Olivet Boys & Girls Club

Olivet Boys & Girls Club of Reading & Berks County provides recreation, education and guidance programs for children ages 6-18. The clubs are located throughout the city of Reading. The clubs are open after school and into the evening to provide safe, supervised programs for the youth of the community. During the summer the club operates during the day and the organization has a swimming pool on Clinton Street and a camp located in Hamburg, PA.

Community Service Activities: Olivet Boys & Girls Club is looking for anyone over the age of 18 that would like to mentor youth; requires mentoring training and clearances. In this training, the future mentor will be trained on the dos and don'ts of mentoring. Mentors would be asked to meet with mentee approximately one hour a week, plus any group activities that are scheduled.

Community Service Activities: The Reading Public Main Library and Northeast, Northwest, and Southeast Branches have many volunteer opportunities, such as homework helpers, greeters, and computer assistants.
