4-H Youth Development ProgramThe 4-H Development Program is a part of the Rutgers Cooperative Extension. This program offers educational programs to all youth. A variety of volunteer opportunities are available, including 4-H Club Leaders, School-Age Child Care Provides, Teachers, Camp Counselors, Parent Helpers, and Mentors. For instance, volunteers are needed as Zoo Keeper Volunteers, where they would walk around the zoo and interact with visitors. Education Volunteers are needed to answer questions for visitors, discuss particular animals with visitors, perform educational programs, assist with enrichment programs such as crafts and painting, and assist with special events. Interested individuals should call the Park and Zoo or print and complete the volunteer application that is found on their website. The Cape May County Zoo and Park is asking interested individuals to volunteer for a minimum of 6 months or 100-hours. Also, volunteers are subject to background checks when working in the zoo.

Some volunteers may work directly with patients, whereas others may choose volunteer opportunities where they can support and help patients’ family members. Additionally, volunteers have the opportunity to help “behind the scenes” and care for patients such as through helping to feed patients or reading to a sick child.
