The Department of Literacy prepares undergraduate and graduate students to be effective literacy teachers in schools across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and beyond. Our students learn to construct and convey understandings about language and literacy development, literacy instruction and assessment as they become lifelong active agents in their own learning. They learn to understand and respect cultural, linguistic and ethnic diversity, and recognize the positive contributions of diversity.
