The Cheryl Hamel School Counselor Memorial Scholarship
Description
Cheryl Lorraine Hamel, a 1989 graduate of West Chester University, loved
children and she pursued guidance counseling with compassion and joy.
This award, which commemorates her life, is offered annually to someone
who embodies her spirit.
Amount of Award
Up to $500.00, awarded in the fall of each academic year
Scholarship Criteria/Eligibility
To be considered for this competitive award, the candidate must fulfill
the following criteria:
» Be enrolled as a full or part-time graduate student pursuing a Masters’ Degree
and certification in elementary or secondary school counseling at
West Chester University
» Have completed at least nine credits of coursework toward their degree,
attaining at least a 3.5 GPA in that coursework
Application Process
Each candidate must submit the following documentation in a 9"x12" envelope:
» An official West Chester University transcript including current
coursework and most recent GPA
» Two letters of recommendation
» A one page statement describing professional goals and demonstrating
a commitment to education and school counseling

Please submit your completed application packets before November 22,

Selection Process
The selection committee, comprised of several West Chester University
counselor education professors will meet after Thanksgiving to review
all of the candidates' applications and files and select the recipient.
The holistic process places equal weight upon each form of documentation.
Notification of the award will be made December 2, 2002.
