ABOUT OUR SERVICE LEARNING AND VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS

• Service-Learning is defined as academic courses that have a service component.  Students provide meaningful service to the community that is directly related to the course content.  Reflection of these experiences is an important part of true service-learning.

• Volunteer programs provide opportunities for individuals, clubs, and organizations to meet community needs through one-time events as well as on-going programs. 

• The service-learning office works with over 100 area agencies providing a wide range of volunteer experiences.

• During the 2007-2008 academic year, WCU students provided 207,075 hours of service, and raised $136,822 for a wide variety of charities.

        OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEERS & PROJECTS:  Each month outstanding student volunteers and projects are selected.

• Monthly Service Report Form All student organizations & residence halls should report any completed service each month.  It a simple form.

In 2006-2007 students in service-learning classes contributed 137,284 hours of service to the community.
