August and September, 2007 óóóMAKE THIS THE YEAR YOU GET INVOLVED IN THE WOMEN’S CENTER!óóóDo you have an interest in women’s issues and empowerment of women? An interest in gender issues and promoting positive social change? Do you like to have fun, meet new people, expand your horizons and develop your abilities? If you answered “yes” to any of these, you will find the Women’s Center a great place to volunteer. If you can’t come to a scheduled volunteer orientation session, we can set up a time to talk that will fit your schedule. Volunteering is a great way to “get a foot in the door” for a paid student wage position. Below is the schedule of volunteer orientation sessions and also information about other events and activities. Not ready to commit to volunteering? The women’s center is a great place just to drop by, meet new people and find out what’s happening. We’re always looking for new ideas. Come see us September is National Campus Safety Awareness Month Check out www.campussafetymonth.org to find out what you can do to make campus life safer for yourself, your friends and everyone here at WCU. (All programs are in the Women’s Center, 2nd floor Lawrence Hall, over the caf unless otherwise indicated.)
Coming in October (a partial listing – help us plan additional programs!)
Interested in a Women’s Center program but unable to attend? We are happy to provide information on a one to one basis or organize a special program for your group or organization. The Women’s Center Club meets in the center on Monday night at 6pm. This organization welcomes all students interested in women’s issues, women’s equality and the empowerment of women. It’s also a great place to find out about other women-focused special interest groups. We are already working on programs for spring including The Vagina Monologues, Lunafest (benefits breast cancer research and services), Take Back the Night and the Clothesline Project as well as a fall or spring trip to the National Museum of Women in Art and the National Park in Seneca Falls, NY focusing on the history of the women’s rights movement. If you would like to get involved in these or any other activities let us know. Come find your niche in the women’s center!!!
The Women's Center offers volunteer opportunities and also assistance and information on a wide variety of issues and concerns such as relationship problems, food issues, sexual assault, sex harassment, and empowerment of women for both traditional age and returning women students.
