5 Steps to Financial Aid @ WCU

Step 4: Secure the Financial Aid in your Package

It is important that you take the steps necessary to actually receive the funds you have been offered. Know your Student Consumer Rights and Responsibilities. Don’t lose your aid by failing to follow through on what was needed to be done.

If you have a student loan in your aid package you have the right to reduce or decline the loan that you have been offered. Remember loans require repayment.Watch Video Please take action on your loan via MYWCU @ www.wcupa.edu.

Beginning the summer of 2010 West Chester University will be a “Direct Loan” institution. The funding will come directly from the federal government and not a bank. All students offered a Federal Direct Student Loan will be required to sign a NEW Master Promissory Note (MPN).

If this is your 1st Federal Student Loan at West Chester University you are also required to complete an Entrance Interview. This applies to a Ford Direct Federal Student Loan, a Perkins Student Loan or a Federal Nursing Student Loan.

Federal Work Study Student Employment Packet – Students offered federal work study must return the employment contract and payroll materials as outlined in the contract. Employment packets will be mailed home during the summer until the end of July. Late employment offers will be emailed to the student’s WCU email account.

Federal Grants - do not require any action on your part. We assume you would like to “ACCEPT” the funds offered to you from these programs.

PA State Grant recipients are required to provide information regarding their housing arrangements for the academic year. Off-campus students must provide a valid off campus address for each semester they receive a state grant. To provide the information please complete and submit a Financial Aid “Housing” form to our office. In addition, if you are awarded a PA State Grant your record may be selected by the State Grant division for review VALIDATION. If this happens please submit all documents directly to the PHEAA as soon as possible.

“Verification” - If you are awarded Federal Financial Aid and your FAFSA is selected for verification the financial aid office must request and review documents that will confirm that the information provided on your FAFSA is correct. We have provided a guide to assist you with understanding these forms and their purpose. Please do not download and submit these forms to our office if they have not been request by our office. Doing so will only complicate and burden the process. Always include the student’s name and WCU ID# on all materials. Make certain that all documents are complete and signed by all parties.
