A Note About Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and Need

The EFC (Expected Family Contribution) is calculated from FAFSA data, including parental income and net assets, student income and net assets and number of family members (other than parents) enrolled in college.

The Cost of Attendance minus the EFC equals Need. The Cost of Attendance includes tuition and fees, room and board, books and supplies, transportation, personal and miscellaneous expenses. Need will vary from school to school because costs will differ.
