Alternative loans are private funds that are usually used to supplement students' or families' financial aid packages. They bridge the gap between the cost of attendance and federal and state grants and loans. These loans are based on credit-worthiness and sometimes borrower and co-borrower income. Each lender has different rates and terms. Students are strongly encouraged to borrow with a co-signer to increase the chances of loan approval and a better interest rate.

After extensive research and evaluation of lenders who responded to WCU Requests for Information (RFI's), a list of preferred lenders is offered below. We searched for lenders who provide the best interest rates, no fees or low fees, exemplary customer service and convenient repayment management options. We considered each lender's pricing process and credit criteria. All lender web sites were visited and researched for student loan content and how loans are marketed.

Students and families should "comparison shop," carefully considering which loan program best meets their individual needs and concerns. The preferred lender list below is a guide to assist students, but the West Chester University Financial Aid Office will process any application from any lender of the student's choice. If using a WCU preferred lender, please link to the lender's web site directly to apply for the loan. Lenders are listed alphabetically, not by any school preference.
