How much is borrowing going to cost me?

Remember that Federal Stafford and Ford Direct Federal Student Loans loans must be repaid, with interest, beginning six (6) months after the student separates from school, or drops below half-time enrollment (6 credits) whether or not the program of study is completed. The interest rate may changes from year to year. The standard repayment term is 10 years, and any unpaid unsubsidized loan interest will be capitalized, or added back in to the principal of the loan, right before repayment begins.

Extended repayment terms are available through graduated repayment or consolidation, but students should remember that any extension in repayment terms means larger costs overall. Students are provided with exit counseling before graduation, either on-line or in-person, where in-depth explanation of repayment is addressed. Other repayment issues, such as deferment, forbearance, discharge and cancellation of loans are also addressed. This information is available, at any time, to students at www.aessuccess.org.
