Academic Affairs Budget Update Fiscal Year 2010 Budget Reductions May 6, 2009

President Weisenstein has considered the budget reduction options and has made decisions which protect our core function. While the Academic Affairs (AA) division is approximately 66% of the university base budget, our reduction is only 52%. Each of the other division reductions is greater than their portion of WCU base budget.

In the Open Forum and in other conversations, faculty articulated the desire to minimize impact on class size. Therefore, while the colleges equal 80% of the AA budget, the colleges’ contribution to FY10 reductions is less than 80%.

In broad categories the FY10 base budget reductions are as follows:
  • Reduce sabbaticals by a third

  • Reduce centrally supported AWA for university activities

  • Eliminate the Curriculum Integration Project and redirect part of funds to Pedagogy for Engagement to support diversity efforts

  • Replace grant match with one time dollars

  • Reduce non-college operating budgets

  • Eliminate 3 unfilled positions

  • Reduce staff development

  • Reduce Provost Initiative dollars

  • Reduce Library Allocation

  • Reduce approximately 12 FTE Temporary Faculty expenses

  • Decrease student support
