CONGRATULATIONS ON 10 YEARS REACCREDITATION FROM THE COMMISSION ON ACCREDITATION OF ATHLETIC TRAINING EDUCATION!!!

 

The Department of Sports Medicine, within the College of Health Sciences, has as its primary role the preparation of students for careers in athletic training and related health care fields. Fundamental to such a career is successful completion of the certification examination given by the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC). The Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in the Department of Sports Medicine provides access to all the prerequisites for the board of certification exam.

The certified athletic trainer (ATC) is a health care professional who specialize in preventing, recognizing, managing and rehabilitating injuries that result from physical activity. As part of a complete health care team, the certified athletic trainer works under the direction of a licensed physician and in cooperation with other health care professionals, athletics administrators, coaches and parents.

The Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training
The BS in Athletic Training program at West Chester University is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).

WCU to offer Summer Athletic Training Program – 15 credits total
Courses will run from May 26, 2009-August 7, 2009

SMD 312 20:  Pathology and Evaluation of Athletic Injury/ Illness II (3 credits)

              May 26, 2009 - June 5, 2009; 9:00 AM- 12:00 noon, 1:00-3:00 PM (9 days)

 

SMD 313 20: Pathology and Evaluation of Athletic Injury/ Illness III (3 credits)

             June 8, 2009- June 24, 2009; 9:00 AM- 12:00 noon, 1:00-3:00 PM (9 days)

              No classes on June 16, 17, 18, and 19 due to NATA convention

 

SMD 311 20:  Therapeutic Exercise for Athletic Training (3 credits)

              June 25, 2009 - July 16, 2009; 8:00 - 11:00 AM  (15 days)      

              No class on Friday July 3

 

SML 311 201:  Therapeutic Exercise for Athletic Training Laboratory (2 credit)

              June 25, 2009 - July 16, 2009; 12:00 - 4:00 PM – Runs concurrently with SMD311 20 (15 days)  

              No class on Friday July 3

 General note: no class on Friday July 17, 2009

 

SMD 310 20:  Therapeutic Modalities for Athletic Training (3 credits)

              July 20, 2009- August 7, 2009; 8:00 - 11:00 AM (15 days)

             

SML 310 22:  Therapeutic Modalities for Athletic Training Laboratory (1 credit)

             July 20, 2009- August 7, 2009; 12:00 - 2:00 PM (15 days) Runs concurrently with SMD310 20


Courses can be taken individually and are approved for Act 48 Credit

Course Prerequisites:Interested students MUST have taken an Anatomy & Physiology course

Course Reccomendations: It is reccomended that students have previously taken courses in Exercise Physiology & Biomechanics
