Hosted by the Department of Geography and Planning, Ruby Jones Hall, West Chester University, West Chester, PA, 19383; 610-436-2155 or 610-696-2282. These films are professionally produced by world-famous photojournalists who narrate them in person from the stage of Sykes Union Theater, Rosedale Avenue, West Chester University. All programs start promptly at 7 p.m. Individual program tickets are $8. A season subscription that includes a ticket for each of the eight programs plus one bonus ticket is available for $56. Partial series subscriptions that include five programs of the subscriber's choice (and no bonus) are $35. Theme Pre-Program Dinners: Begin each evening's travel experience by joining other travel adventurers for a theme buffet dinner prior to each program at 5:30 p.m. Dinners are expertly prepared and presented by a catering staff. Prices are all inclusive. Advanced registration and payment by a specified deadline date is essential. Dinners are served buffet style. Discounts are available when purchasing a season film subscription and with advance-paid reservations for four or more different dinner dates. Season subscribers are given preference for the limited dinner seating. Gulf Coast RV Adventure: Still Wild and Beautiful!
September 17 and 18 - 7 p.m.
Presenter: John Holod John Holod seeks out the wonderful, interesting places to visit on the U.S. Gulf Coast that are still there despite the destruction of the recent past. His camera also captures people working to rebuild their beautiful coast. This 1700-mile film journey begins at Sanibel Island (Florida) and ends at Padre Island (Texas). Along the way we’ll see spectacular photography of birds, mammals, marine life, flora--captured in unique camera angles that only Mr. Holod knows. Come join this adventure, and be amazed! The Other Side of Mexico
October 15 and 16 - 7 p.m.
Presenters: Fran and Brooke Reidelberger
Fran and Brooke Reidelberger, filmmakers extraordinaire, take us to the central
highlands of Mexico, known as the “Land of Eternal Spring.” From the ancient Aztec
ruins, to the colonial silver towns, to the modern retirement meccas, we’ll journey
through time as well as space. We’ll see active volcanoes, a rollicking rodeo,
and millions of Monarch Butterflies in their winter home. Join us for enticing
variety and splendid photography!
Austria--Above and Beyond
November 12 and 13 - 7 p.m.
Presenter: Charles Hartman What happens when noted travel filmmaker Charles Hartman turns his camera on Austria? The unexpected! Yes, we’ll see scenes from the lives of Haydn and Strauss and wondrous mountain scenery--but we’ll also sample coffee houses, native mushrooms, mountain cheese, and Wurstl-Stand sausage. We’ll see an authentic “pulled” apple strudel being made, and experience market day in the Medieval Old Square in Feldkirche. Come and explore new vistas! LaManche/The English Channel
December 3 and 4 - 7 p.m.
Presenters: Monty and Marsha Brown
Join Monty and Marsha Brown on this unique voyage of discovery along
the North Coast of France, the South Coast of England, and some islands
in between. We’ll see channel crossings, hear stories of the disastrous
Dieppe Raid of 1942, explore the Isle of Wight and the Normandy beaches.
In the Channel Islands we’ll experience history, and also Guernsey cows
and sweaters. This is a varied, intriguing journey--join us!
Venture to Alaska
February 11 and 12 - 7 p.m.
Presenter: Dale Johnson Alaska is full of surprises, flamboyance, astounding scenery, and intimate portraits of wild creatures at their own work. It is a tossed salad of people in cities, villages, and isolated outposts! Dale Johnson finds all of this with his magical camera, and narrates an insightful program that finds a moose in the middle of the city, and 100-pound cabbages and 32 pound beets in the farmlands. Think you know Alaska? This program invites you to think again! On the Road to Mandalay (Burma and Angkor Wat)
March 3 and 4 - 7 p.m.
Presenter: Buddy Hatton
Mayanmar (formerly Burma) is one of the world’s most mysterious and undiscovered destinations.
Buddy Hatton hesitated to commit to filming it because it also is one of the most repressed
societies, but he was given free rein with his camera and a marvelous film results!
Come see breathtaking terrain, 2000-year heritage, ancient cities, persistent
Buddhism,--all interpreted through Mr. Hatton’s informed perspective and insightful
commentary. Not to be missed!
Amazing Australia
March 24 and 25 - 7 p.m.
Presenter: Grant Foster Indigenous aboriginal culture, British penal colony, koalas and kangaroos, Ayers Rock in the Red Center, Sydney’s ‘coathanger’ bridge and opera house, Barossa wine country—Grant Foster brings it all together in a compact, informative, story and film. From Darwin in the north to the island of Tasmania in the south, we’ll have a remarkable journey and meet the veteran New Zealand film maker whose exhaustive insight portrays this remarkable country so unforgettably. Worlds of the Maya
April 7 and 8 - 7 p.m.
Presenter: Sandy Mortimer
Known as the “Greeks of the Americas,” the Mayan people were religiously
and artistically a nation, although in politically sovereign states.
Sandy Mortimer explores Belize and Guatemala, two countries that hold stories
and sites of the great Classical Maya past, and that also are home to much
of the present Maya culture. We’ll visit remote villages, and learn of
age-old rituals and ceremonies—all with unexpected angles captured by
Ms. Mortimer’s powerful camera.
